Chinese telecom equipment supplier ZTE recently announced that the company and Indonesian telecom operator Smart Telecom entered into a supply agreement, whereby ZTE will deliver major network equipment for the latter to deploy a pan-Indonesia CDMA 2000 1xEVDO (Evolution-Data Only) Rev. B commercial network, including 6,000 CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) base stations, the Sohu IT News reported on June 29, adding that the network is expected to have a total capacity of over 25 million lines. Aside from base stations, ZTE's deliverables include wireless solutions, transmission and core network products, business platform systems, power supplies and other equipment, according to a press release by ZTE on June 28.

 

This agreement deepened the relationship between ZTE and Smart Telecom following their strategic tie-up in January 2010 to set up the advanced CDMA commercial network in Bali, Indonesia. ZTE boasted that its EV-DO Rev. B system is capable of smoothly evolving to LTE (Long Term Evolution) by simply adding LTE baseband board and upgrading software.
